Daegu, Korea, August 16 (Korea Bizwire) – The Province of North Gyeongsang held the ‘2013 secondary language competition for children from multi-cultured families’ on August 14 to help the children better understand the culture of their parents and to improve their language skills.
More than 38 teams participated in this year’s competition competing in seven different languages including Vietnamese, Chinese, Russian, and Japanese. This year’s event, the fifth annual competition since the first in 2009, attracted many more participants compared to 2012, thanks to better education and active promotion of families of international marriage and children by the provincial government.
Chung Gang-soo, director of the health and welfare department at the province, said, “This competition is held every year to heighten interest in the languages and cultures of multi-cultured families not only among themselves but also among the regional community. Our policies towards these families are focused on enhancing the capabilities to be self-supporting and educating them with the goal of raising self-esteem of the children so that they can grow up as confident members of our society.”
