SEOUL, Mar. 11 (Korea Bizwire) – In a revealing glimpse into the collective psyche of a nation increasingly alarmed by the environmental crisis at its doorstep, a recent comprehensive survey has highlighted the deep concerns harbored by South Koreans over the twin perils of climate change and the burgeoning issue of plastic waste.

This widespread apprehension has led to a strong call for decisive action, manifesting in a preference for stringent regulatory measures and fiscal policies aimed at mitigating these environmental challenges.

The survey, which canvassed the opinions of 1,501 citizens alongside 504 experts in the field, has unveiled a significant consensus on the severity of environmental issues, with a staggering 96% of respondents acknowledging the acute seriousness of climate change.

This sentiment is echoed in the realm of plastic pollution, with 97% of participants deeming it a grave concern that necessitates immediate and robust intervention.

Amidst this backdrop of growing environmental awareness, the survey delineated a clear preference for the implementation of regulations and the imposition of levies as viable strategies to combat the excessive use of disposable products and to finance conservation efforts.

This pronounced inclination towards regulatory frameworks and financial mechanisms underscores a collective yearning for effective governance in stewardship of the environment.

Interestingly, the survey also revealed a slight dip in the overall level of interest in environmental issues compared to previous years, a trend that merits attention and further investigation.

Despite this slight wane, the commitment to environmental consciousness remains markedly high, with a noteworthy disparity between genders; women exhibited a higher level of concern than their male counterparts.

Delving into the specifics, the survey illuminated a preference for strengthening the financial burden on products contributing to environmental pollution, with 44.1% of the general populace and 28.6% of experts advocating for this approach.

Additionally, taxing corporations responsible for emitting pollutants garnered substantial support, underscoring a collective push towards holding accountable those at the heart of the environmental crisis.

In the face of these daunting challenges, the survey painted an optimistic picture of the willingness among citizens and experts alike to participate in carbon-neutral initiatives, even in the face of inconvenience or additional costs.

This widespread readiness to engage in sustainable practices speaks volumes about the evolving environmental ethos of the nation.

However, the survey also cast a critical eye on current government policies, suggesting a misalignment with the public sentiment, particularly in the environmental domain. The prevailing policies, characterized by regulatory relaxation and tax reductions, seem to diverge from the popular mandate for more rigorous environmental safeguards.
