NEW YORK, April 2, 2014 (Korea Bizwire) – National Point and Insurance Reduction Course, Inc. (“NPIRC”), doing  business as Online Defensive Driving Course by Improv, offers online  classes which have not only proven to be effective in saving lives, but  also benefit New Yorkers by saving them money on their auto insurance.

Legislation which was passed in 2005 amended New York’s Vehicle and  Traffic Law to allow Point and Insurance Reduction courses (aka  Defensive Driving Courses) to be taken through the Internet. Any New  York driver can voluntarily participate in the program to receive a  benefit of an insurance discount and/or a reduction of points on their  driving record.

Historically, over 300,000 New York drivers annually take advantage of  this unique program which can save New Yorkers thousands of dollars on  their auto insurance policies and/or prevent their driver’s licenses  from being suspended. Until the passage of the 2005 amendment to the  law, this program was only offered in the classroom setting. The new  legislation allowed for online programs and provided the ability to  collect valuable data about the program. The New York Commissioner of  Motor Vehicles engaged in a five-year pilot program to review and study  the effectiveness of Internet and other technologies as approved  training methods for the accident prevention program.

The Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) has just completed and published  the outcome of the effectiveness study that summarized the analysis of  the online defensive driving program over the last five years. Below is  a summary of the findings:

  • Student response was overwhelmingly positive
  • Analysis of traffic convictions and crashes show that online programs  are at least as effective, and in some cases more effective, than  classroom programs
  • Both online and classroom programs have resulted in a reduction of  traffic tickets and crashes

Below are statistics of the state-run study as it directly applies to  the Online Defensive Driving Course by Improv:

  • 65% of students take the course strictly for the insurance discount  incentive
  • 93.4% prefer the online class over a classroom setting
  • 80.4% rated Improv’s course as excellent and very easy
  • Students completing the course have demonstrated a 7.5% reduction in  future traffic ticket convictions and 1.2% reduction in crashes

The Online Defensive Driving by Improv course was created in partnership  with the World Famous Improv Comedy Club and is based on the notion that  driver education doesn’t have to be dry and boring. Improv has won  several awards such as “Best Traffic School” and has repeatedly proven  that better driving skills can be taught through affordable,  entertaining courses. To date, over two million students have completed  Improv courses nationwide. The courses are administered directly through  Improv’s website, www.MyImprov.com,  or via its affiliate partner network. Hundreds of NY insurance agents  offer Improv’s defensive driving course either online or in the  classroom so they can pass auto insurance savings onto their customers  by way of a trusted, fun and effective course.
