SEOUL, Jan. 27 (Korea Bizwire) — Unlike most medical centers that have been hit hard during the coronavirus pandemic, plastic surgery clinics set a new record for the number of surgical procedures conducted last year.
A local liposuction clinic 365mc reported Tuesday that it had conducted a whopping 31,241 liposuction surgeries last year, setting a new record after surpassing the previous year by 11 percent.
Most of the incoming patients were South Koreans as the coronavirus made international travel virtually impossible.
Plastic surgery clinics are being seen as some of the beneficiaries of COVID-19 pandemic.
A majority of the patients at 365mc were found to have had liposuction on their arms (38 percent), followed by the belly (34.1 percent) and thigh (18.7 percent).
Sorted by gender, most women wanted liposuction on the arms (40.2 percent), while men preferred to focus on belly fat (70.5 percent).
Female patients showed different preferences for liposuction by age.
While those in their 20s preferred liposuction on their arms (40.8 percent), this pattern gradually shifted to the belly as they grew older, reaching 47.2 percent by the age of 50.
Among female patients, those in their 20s and 30s accounted for the majority.
Among all patients, those in their 30s accounted for 34.8 percent, followed by those in their 20s (34 percent). The data also showed that 45.2 percent of male patients were in their 30s.
