SEOUL, July 12 (Korea Bizwire) — Rain and sun dual-use umbrellas are enjoying increasing popularity due to the unpredictable weather during the rainy season, which brings both rain and sunshine.
Online shopping mall Gmarket witnessed a threefold increase in the sales of umbrellas and yangsan (small portable parasols) from July 3 to 9 compared to a month ago.
Sales of rain and sun dual-use umbrellas, on the other hand, were eight times higher.
Moreover, long umbrellas that offer protection against heavy rain experienced a fourfold increase in sales, while one-off raincoats saw a more than tripled rise.
Sales of raincoats and rain boots for children also witnessed respective increases of 211 percent and 119 percent.
Additionally, there was a 78 percent increase in sales of dehumidifiers and a 107 percent increase in sales of dehumidifying agents, both of which help control indoor humidity.
“Due to climate change, short yet intense rain showers have become common during the rainy season,” Gmarket said.
“As a result, there is a rapid increase in the demand for rain and sun dual-use umbrellas, and the trend of using raincoats and rain boots as casual clothing is also gaining traction.”
