SEOUL, July 15 (Korea Bizwire) – Renault Samsung unveiled a new promotion program by which it allows car buyers to exchange their existing compact-sized sedans, produced by other car makers, with Renault Samsung’s brand-new SM3.

The company announced on July 11 that it would carry out a new promotional campaign “SM3 333 Project” that targets those who have purchased cars from other auto makers within the past three months. If they have intentions to exchange their cars with an SM3, they are allowed to do so after trial driving.

If the purchaser of an Avante takes advantage of the program to exchange for SM3, Renault Samsung provides him or her with an SM3 by adjusting the prices of a new SM3 with the prices of used Avante based on the prices set by SK EnCar, the nation’s largest e-marketplace for used cars. Renault Samsung plans to finance the gap between the prices by up to 3 million won.

Renault Samsung Motors, which saw domestic car sales tumble 14.2% to make it the nation’s smallest automaker behind SssangYong, has agreed a new pay deal with its union after 12 rounds of talks. The marketing campaign mentioned above is part of its desperate gesture to turn around its staggering market performance.

In the meantime, a news article about foreign car makers’ pulling out of Korean market (Quartz) produced a huge array of criticism against  the local automakers’ unions on social media last night.

A significant number of readers voiced concerns over the militant tactics done by the union at the expense of the local average consumers’ economic burden; say, the union’s excessive demand for pay rise leads to inflated prices of cars on the local market.
