SEOUL, Nov. 24 (Korea Bizwire) — The Ministry of Interior and Safety announced Tuesday that the artificial intelligence (AI) and big data-based ‘tax arrears analysis service’ that uses big data technology to analyze local tax data and calculate the potential of future payment will cover the entire nation next year.
This service predicts if a taxpayer will pay local tax in arrears within the next six months, after which the amount of unpaid tax and the taxpayer’s income level is reported to a local taxation agency.
The ministry, jointly with Gyeonggi Province, developed the prediction model based on the analysis of 95 million cases of unpaid tax in the last five years throughout 31 cities and counties and has been testing it in the province since August of last year.
The predictions can be used to call on taxpayers who are more likely to pay their taxes to make their payments voluntarily, and confiscate the property of regular tax evaders with higher income.
The government said that the system has reduced the time needed to check relevant data from three hours to minutes and has allowed government agencies to continue rigorous tax collecting activities during the pandemic.
