When worn by an elderly dementia patient, family members or other guardians can check the whereabouts of the patient, from their smartphone regardless of their location, thanks to SK Telecom’s long rage low power wireless platform (LoRA).

When a missing person is reported within Seocho District, the main control center will receive information regarding the whereabouts of the person through the smart watch, and use its 2,262 CCTV cameras to locate the missing person in real time.

The smart watch is designed to fit closely to the wrist to avoid being unfastened by accident, and is also waterproof.

Once fully charged, the new smart watch is expected to last for around a month for two hours of outdoor activities every day.

Seocho District’s latest move to help dementia patients comes amid growing reports of elderly people suffering from dementia going missing in recent years.

Last year in Seocho District alone, over 90 reports of missing elderly dementia patients were reported.
