SEOUL, Aug. 18 (Korea Bizwire) — Seoul Metro, the operator of the subway service in Seoul, said Thursday it has kicked off a “smart station” project aimed at overhauling the outdated monitoring system of subway line No. 5 into a unified and integrated system.
The initiative seeks to enable the customer safety control center to achieve comprehensive management of station facilities, including elevators and cameras, which were previously managed independently.
The system upgrade will encompass 51 subway stations along the Bangwha to Sangil-dong stretch of line No. 5, with an anticipated completion date set for February of the upcoming year.
Seoul Metro emphasizes that the synergy among 3D maps, Internet of Things (IoT) sensors, and intelligent CCTV cameras facilitates seamless collaboration, thereby enabling the integrated management of diverse elements within subway stations, spanning security and customer service.
The employment of digital twin-based 3D map technology empowers subway personnel with a holistic perspective of the station’s interior, streamlining the real-time identification and communication of emergencies, and ensuring the effective handling of such incidents.
The visualization of the subway station’s interior spaces renders virtual patrols viable, utilizing location-based CCTV screens.
