SEOUL, Aug. 18 (Korea Bizwire) — SK Innovation Co. has received global certificates for the establishment of a system to measure the impact of greenhouse gases on the entire cycle of production for the first time among South Korean refiners.
The company announced on Wednesday that it had received a string of international standard certificates for the calculation of carbon footprints (ISO14040:2006, ISO14044:2006, ISO14067:2018) from Lloyd’s Register Quality Assurance, a provider of independent assessment services.
The newly-certified SK Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) infrastructure is a system that can measure and monitor the greenhouse gas emissions of major petrochemical products such as gasoline, diesel and ethylene throughout the entire spectrum ranging from the stage of crude oil exploration to the stage of use and abandonment.
With this system, SK Innovation plans to measure its greenhouse gas emissions as well as demonstrate the technology to clients and external companies.
“The SK LCA will enable us to measure our net zero efforts in a fast and quantitative manner,” a company official said.
