SEOUL, June 19 (Korea Bizwire) — Small boats can now enjoy streaming video from platforms like YouTube and Netflix, thanks to the availability of satellite antennas designed specifically for them. In the past, communication on small ships required bulky and heavy satellite antennas. However, a new ultra-compact antenna has been introduced to replace them.

SK Telink announced on Monday the launch of the first satellite communication service (VSAT) in Asia that utilizes a highly compact 45-centimeter satellite antenna.

The “Ultra Small VSAT” is a maritime satellite communication service tailored for small ships. It offers high-bandwidth data services, providing download speeds of up to 6Mbps and upload speeds of up to 2Mbps using the 45cm antenna.

This breakthrough enables users to comfortably utilize messaging apps, make internet calls, and enjoy streaming videos from platforms like YouTube and Netflix.

In comparison to traditional satellite antennas, which have a reflector diameter of 100 centimeters and weigh 110 kilograms, the Intelliantech antenna used in this service has a reflector diameter of 45 centimeters and weighs only 25 kilograms. As a result, it can be easily handled by individuals and occupies minimal space.

SK Telink collaborated with satellite antenna specialist Intelliantech and global satellite operator Intelsat to launch this service.

Intelliantech’s antenna offers significant advantages with its compact design and lightweight construction. Furthermore, SK Telink has optimized satellite frequencies to enhance service stability and quality.
