SEOUL, Aug. 21 (Korea Bizwire)KT Corp., a major South Korean telecom operator, said Thursday that subscription to its mobile services will be possible using a PASS Mobile Driver’s License instead of a physical ID card.

The PASS Mobile Driver’s License is an app-based service that enables users to register their driver’s license in PASS, a domestic ID confirmation application run jointly by the nation’s three major mobile carriers, and use their digital driver’s license for confirmation of their identity.

For all types of mobile services, including changing a mobile device, for which subscribers previously needed to show their ID card in advance, a digital driver’s license will be used instead of physical ID cards.

To improve the security and convenience of the Digital Drivers’ License service, KT will make use of screen capture prevention technology for QR codes and barcodes and initialize the QR codes if the validation time of 30 seconds elapses.

To protect customer information as well as to prevent data forgery and alteration, company will also use blockchain-based technologies.

The ID card scanning process, a step that previously needed to be completed to subscribe to mobile services, will be replaced by a new process designed to prevent the use of stolen identities.

Under the new process, customers will be able to submit an image of their ID card through the PASS application.
