SEOUL, Aug. 23 (Korea Bizwire) — A large number of volunteers from all around the country have congregated in areas damaged by the recent torrential rains to help rehabilitate them.
According to the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, about 19,000 volunteers participated in the rehabilitation of flood-damaged areas through 54 volunteer centers in six cities including Seoul and Incheon for nine days from Aug. 10-18.
In the initial stage, volunteers pumped the water out of flooded homes and removed earth and sand.
Thereafter, they helped rehabilitate public facilities, traditional markets, small business workplaces and agricultural lands, while participating in the clean-up of flooded river areas.
In the meantime, the ministry ensured that their volunteer activities would be carried out in a safe environment by providing comprehensive volunteer insurance.
