190,000 Government Exam Applicants Vie for 3,000 Job Slots

SEOUL, Korea, Feb 20 (Korea Bizwire) – The Ministry of Security and Public Administration said on February 19 that it has closed the application on the 7th for its 2014 exam for 9th-grade (the lowest public officer grade) government employees and the total applicant numbers were 193,840 for only 3,000 slots. That’s the rate of one successful applicant in every 65 persons.

The rate is somewhat lower than that of last year when 204,698 applied for 2,789 government positions (one per 75 applicants). The segment with the highest rate of competition was architectural in which as many as 1,821 sent applications for only three slots. As for the educational administrative segment, there were 8,575 applicants for 16 jobs.

By age group, those in their 20s took the largest portion with 61.1 percent, followed by those in their 30s (33.1%), 40s (4.0%), and those in their age between 18 and 19 (1.4%). The average age of applicants was 28.7 years of age, slightly higher than that in 2013. Of the total applicants, the ratio of women was 51.8 percent, slightly higher than last year’s 50.8 percent.
