SEOUL, Nov. 20 (Korea Bizwire) — South Korean men and women picked “successful startup owner” as the most desired dream job, a recent survey has showed.
According to a survey of 4,091 adult men and women conducted by JobKorea and Albamon, job search portal operators, the number one dream job was ‘to succeed in launching a startup,’ with the highest response rate of 32.8 percent.
This was followed by 27.3 percent of the respondents who said they dreamed of becoming a ‘building owner’.
Next on the list was ‘public official’, accounting for 20 percent, followed by professional jobs such as doctor and lawyer, accounting for 14.5 percent, and YouTuber, accounting for 12 percent.
When analyzing the survey results by age bracket, all age groups dreamed of being successful startup owners, and as participants aged, they were more likely to dream of becoming building owners.
Among the reasons for dreaming of such a job, 41.2 percent of the respondents cited “for a good match between work and personal life.”
The second highest number of respondents said they dreamed of being start-up owners for steady income until retirement accounting for 30.3 percent, followed by a high paying job, accounting for 30.3 percent.
The minimum monthly income that respondents hoped to earn was 3.6 million won (US$3,100) on average.
JobKorea said that the perception of jobs seems to be changing, as Koreans seek a job where they can work while maintaining and enjoying a work-life balance rather than a job with fierce competition.
