SEOUL, Jan. 30 (Korea Bizwire) — Birds indigenous to China are being found in South Korea, largely due to climate change, a study showed Sunday.
A thesis published in the recent edition of the Korean Journal of Phycology reported that two silver-throated tits were discovered on Socheong Island in Incheon in March of last year.
The tits were found 185 kilometers away from their original habitat in China. Their habitat is known to be in the northern Yangtze River.
Due to smaller wings compared to the size of their bodies, they are known to lack the capability for long-distance flight.
“Worldwide climate change may result in a changing world map of bird habitats,” the study said. “The habitats of bird species living around the Korean peninsula are expected to expand in the long term.”
