SEOUL, May 24 (Korea Bizwire) — About half of South Korean consumers own smart home appliances, and a significant number of consumers also intend to purchase them in the future, a survey showed Tuesday.
The survey, conducted by local pollster Open Survey and involving 4,000 men and women between the ages of 20 and 59, revealed that the awareness of smart home appliances increased by 7.9 percentage points from a year ago, with 91.2 percent of respondents indicating awareness.
Furthermore, the ownership of smart home appliances saw a significant increase of 18.8 percentage points, reaching 48.3 percent.
Among those who did not own such appliances, 55 percent expressed an intention to purchase them in the future.
The most common reason for not trying smart home appliances was the cost, which was cited by 38 percent of respondents.
Currently, the most commonly used types of smart home appliances are washing machines and dryers (42.4 percent), followed by seasonal home electronics (41.4 percent), TV, projector, and video devices (38.1 percent), and kitchen appliances (35.9 percent).
