SEOUL, Sept. 22 (Korea Bizwire) — An online blogger became the first South Korean to get ahold of an iPhone 8, after traveling Japan to purchase the latest mobile device from Apple on Friday.
Blogger Choi Pil-sik, who is also known as ‘Toothbrush’, made an announcement on Facebook in the morning, sharing the moment with his followers when he became the first South Korean to purchase the iPhone 8, one of the latest smartphone models released by Apple.
Choi pre-ordered an iPhone 8 with 64GB of storage before he flew to Japan. He was the second person in line at the Apple Store in Osaka and at around 8 a.m., he finally got his hands on the new iPhone, which is priced at around 980,000 won.
Choi now uses his iPhone 8 with South Korean mobile provider LG Uplus.
“I decided to purchase the iPhone 8 in Japan so that I could experience the performance of the new processor. I’m also very curious to see how augmented reality technology is adopted in the iPhone 8,” Choi said in excitement.
The new 8-series is the first Apple product to include the company’s new A11 bionic processor, becoming the first smartphone model to feature a built-in artificial-intelligence chip.
South Korea isn’t among the first batch of countries selling the iPhone 8, which means the only way for South Korean smartphone fans to get ahold of Apple’s new phone is to follow in the footsteps of Choi and make a trip to the likes of China and Japan before the new phones are officially released in the local market sometime around the end of next month.
The iPhone X, which is set to be released on November 3 globally, is expected to be released in South Korea sometime during the month of December, to take on its rival Samsung’s latest smartphone series including the Galaxy S8 and the Galaxy Note 8, according to industry sources.
Apple fans who were first to purchase the new iPhone in countries where the new phones were available made headlines across the world today, as the much-anticipated smartphone saw hundreds of brand loyalists line up in front of Apple Stores in countries like Singapore and Japan.
