BUSAN, Sept. 2 (Korea Bizwire) — The Blue Planet Future Festival (BPFF), a film festival dedicated to addressing the urgent climate crisis, is set to commence in Busan.
With renowned singer Yoon Ha serving as the festival’s honorary ambassador, this event will feature over 50 films, each tackling a range of critical environmental issues.
On August 30, Global Networks for Blue Planet and the Busan Cinema Center jointly announced the second edition of the BPFF (Blue Planet Future Festival), scheduled to run from September 1 to 5.
Supported by Busan City, the Ministry of Environment, and the Ministry of Science, ICT, and Future Planning, the BPFF will showcase a total of 52 films, including 16 in the competition category, at the Busan Cinema Center.
The festival’s diverse film lineup will encompass subjects such as waste management, sustainable food practices, biodiversity, and, notably, the pressing climate crisis.
The festival’s opening film for this year is “Legacy,” directed by the acclaimed French filmmaker Yann Arthus-Bertrand. Yann, known for his impactful 2009 film “HOME,” delves into the origins of our planet, the evolution of life, the early days of humanity, and the progression of civilization.
His film underscores that human desires have significantly contributed to the climate crisis and stresses the urgency of addressing it promptly, presenting this moment as our sole opportunity to take action.
Yann Arthus-Bertrand, not only a celebrated director but also a prominent environmentalist, expressed his gratitude for his film being selected as the opening night feature. He stated, “Our planet is ailing due to our failure to change our lifestyles.” He emphasized, “It’s not too late to make a change.”
Singer Yoon Ha, best known for her song “Event Horizon,” assumes the role of honorary ambassador for BPFF. In reflecting on the unprecedented weather events, including droughts, wildfires, heatwaves, and heavy rainfall, Yoon Ha shared her concerns: “I’m already worried about next summer. We are depriving our children of the habitable world they deserve.”
She emphasized that addressing the climate crisis is the responsibility of our generation, declaring, “We must take action to halt it, and I am committed to playing my part in this effort.”
