SEOUL, June 7 (Korea Bizwire) — Starting in September, cargo trucks and other special vehicles converted into camping cars, excluding vans, will be available at car rental agencies.
The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced Monday that a new amendment bill will be passed to allow such measures.
Currently, car rental companies are only allowed to rent sedans and vans. Therefore, agencies can rent out so-called ‘camping cars’ only if they are vans that have been converted.
Consequently, consumers had to spend large sums of money to purchase or convert special vehicles into camping cars.
The new amendment bill allows car rental companies to rent out small-sized special vehicles under 3.5 tons in weight. Medium and large-sized special vehicles have been excluded considering the high risk of accidents.
Companies are only allowed to rent special vehicles that are less than 9 years old, in order to block indiscreet rental practices.
