SEOUL, Korea, Feb 4 (Korea Bizwire) – “Office workers tend to get tired at 2:16 pm and feel like having sweets.” “Most housewives make pickles in May.” “People like eating canned tuna with Kimchi best.”

These are findings about Korean food consumers dug up by CJ CheilJedang by analyzing 650 million bits of data from blog, Twitter and Facebook postings. The company said on February 3 that these are small part of their “big data” analysis results and it would actively use these data in their marketing strategy making.

According to the company, there are ten times more postings complaining about “drowsy” or “worn out” at around 2 pm on Mondays than other times. By taking advantage of the fact that people like to eat sweet foods to pull themselves together, CJ began an event to give away its “Petitzel Sweet Pudding” during the early afternoon time.

In addition, the company will promote a recipe on Kimchi casserole mixed with canned salmon based on the big data-derived knowledge that people love to add canned fish such as tuna and salmon in their spicy casserole. Based on the fact that there were much more postings on how to make pickles during the months of May, June, and July when fresh vegetables are coming on the market, the company will launch new pickle products or promote recipes on ideal level of vinegar on the pickle.

Kim Tae-joon, vice president in charge of CJ’s food business unit, said, “Now the time has come for the food industry to come up with highly detailed marketing strategies based on big data analysis. We at CJ CheilJedang will lead the initiative to improve customer satisfaction by actively using big data-based diagnosis.”
