SEOUL, Oct. 18 (Korea Bizwire) – Efforts are underway to install a full-scale replica of Noah’s Ark, constructed by a Dutch architect approximately ten years ago, in South Korea. According to an official from the Korea Noah’s Ark Attraction Committee, composed of Christian figures, Dutch architect Johan Huibers expressed his intention to donate Noah’s Ark, completed in 2012, to Korea.
Noah’s Ark, a wooden structure crafted by the Dutch architect, boasts a length of about 125 meters, a width of around 29 meters, and a height of approximately 23 meters. It encompasses a total floor area of about 16,000 square meters and has an approximate weight of 3,000 tons, featuring a seven-story structure that includes an underground space.
It took Huibers about seven years and approximately $4.2 million to complete this monumental structure.
The ark also houses animal models, mirroring the biblical account of Noah loading various pairs of male and female animals in preparation for the great flood.
Huibers has shown a keen interest in the division of the Korean peninsula, visiting the Aegibong Peace EcoPark, and expressed his intention to donate his creation to Korea with a wish for peace.
Presently, local governments in Incheon and Gyeonggi Province have expressed interest in installing Noah’s Ark. After consultations with Huibers and the committee, the final location for the installation of the ark will be determined.
Currently, Noah’s Ark is located in the Netherlands. It is estimated to take about two months to transport Noah’s Ark to Korea, with an estimated cost of about 5 to 7 billion won, covering transportation, repair, and installation expenses.
If all goes as planned, Noah’s Ark is expected to arrive in Korea within the first half of next year.
