SEOUL, June 1 (Korea Bizwire) — Hyundai Department Store announced on Sunday that it had teamed up with the Ministry of Environment to launch the “Play Green Friends” campaign.
The campaign, designed to promote the collection and reuse of plastic containers, will be carried out from June 5 to 11 at 15 Hyundai Department Stores outlets across the country.
In the midst of a sharp increase in the use of plastic containers for delivery and takeout foods resulting from the prolonged coronavirus outbreak, this campaign aims to promote the recycling of the plastic containers.
During the campaign period, Hyundai Department Store plans to collect plastic containers from a total of 5,000 customers, 300 for each outlet.
Collection will be available at designated places like free gift desks, with no limits on the maker, size and number of plastic containers.
In return for participating in the campaign, customers will be given an eco-bag made of environment-friendly materials. Hyundai Department Store expects more than 30,000 plastic containers to be collected during the campaign period.
In collaboration with social enterprise Touch3Good, Hyundai Department Store plans to upscale the plastic containers into eco-friendly plant pots.
Plants with air purification qualities will be planted in the pots, which will be contributed to about a dozen of elementary schools in Seoul.
