SEOUL, Dec. 31 (Korea Bizwire) — With the COVID-19 pandemic nearing its second anniversary, fewer Koreans are enjoying cultural and arts events in person, with a notable shift towards online events.
According to a survey conducted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Culture and Tourism Institute, the rate of in-person attendance at cultural and arts events stood at 33.6 percent this year, down 26.9 percentage points from a year ago.
The number of visits to culture and arts events also decreased to an average of 1.4 times, down 1.7 times from a year ago, the lowest since 2014.
In contrast, the non-face-to-face attendance rate for cultural and arts events stood at 89.1 percent last year, down 1 percent year on year, but the average frequency rose to 32.4 times from 6.8 times.
Pop music (19.7 times) and movies (11.9 times) accounted for the largest share of non-face-to-face attendance among cultural and arts events.
