JEJU, May 12 (Korea Bizwire)The “pet beach” program on the southern resort island of Jeju, in which businesses, organizations, and schools take care of an allocated beach, will expanded, officials said Thursday.

The program, initiated by the Jeju provincial government in 2020, is now celebrating its fourth anniversary. Currently, 13 businesses and organizations are responsible for managing a total of eight beaches.

For two years, businesses, organizations, and schools that have adopted a “pet beach” engage in beach clean-up activities more than three times a year.

Participants should also organize a campaign for the protection of the marine environment at least once a year.

Individuals are excluded from the program since it focuses on group campaigns and activities.

If the requirements are met, participants may be eligible for an extension. Failure to meet the requirements may result in the revocation of their membership.
