SEOUL, Sept. 30 (Korea Bizwire) – The general public can access and secure detailed and high-quality patent information as the government decides to expand the “customized patent information” service to the public.

The Korean Intellectual Property Office (KIPO) announced that it would allow the general public to search “Patent Classification and Patent Family Information” through the patent information web services called “KIPRISPlus” (plus.kipris.or.kr) from September 29.

The patent classification information thus provided includes the patents’ changed history, as well as the International Patent Classification (IPC) and the Cooperative Patent Classification (CPC), which is a more specific and detailed version of the IPC system. Patent Classification is the criterion to classify patents scattered in various fields into more specified classes and is employed for searching patent documents, analysis for patent trends, and statistics for patents.

This customized service makes it possible to search a patent family, which is a set of patents taken in different countries to protect a single invention.

The patent family information provides over 200 countries’ current conditions relevant to a single patent and the entire evaluating process of the patent at a glance.

KIPO predicts that it will be able to generate added value by creating various intellectual property products and the relevant services.

“We will keep up our utmost effort to get a good grip on the patent information that the public are eager to know and then serve them with optimally customized patent information,” said Director-General Choi Gyu-wan of KIPO’s Information and Customer Service Bureau.
