NAJU, Jun. 14 (Korea Bizwire) – LG CNS, a leading information technology service company, has announced the completion of a new AI powered platform for smart farming in Naju, South Jeolla Province.
The ambitious project, a collaboration between the provincial government of South Jeolla and the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, aims to establish a cutting-edge smart farm spanning over 543,000 square meters in Naju’s Bannam district.
Smart farms leverage advanced technologies to monitor and control the growth environment of crops, ushering in a new era of next-generation agriculture.
For this initiative, LG CNS has integrated its digital transformation (DX) technologies to develop an intelligent platform serving as the brain behind the smart farm operations.
This platform enables comprehensive management throughout the entire agricultural process, maximizing crop yields and improving quality.
The platform provides data-driven intelligent services by leveraging AI to analyze various data points crucial for farming, such as soil conditions, weather patterns, and pest infestations, offering optimal agricultural guidance.
For instance, it can recommend the most suitable fertilizers and their appropriate amounts based on soil analysis. Additionally, it can formulate water supply and drainage plans by combining historical weather data with future forecasts.
The platform’s intelligent services also minimize crop damage from pests and diseases through predictive analytics, diagnosis, and tailored recommendations for pest control measures.
It integrates with the National Crop Pest Management System (NCPMS) to predict outbreaks and utilizes digital traps and satellite imagery to detect and monitor infestations.
To assist farmers in generating stable incomes, the platform offers advanced production and price forecasting capabilities.
Unlike traditional methods that relied on expert analysis of leaf length and area from CCTV and drone imagery, LG CNS has enhanced its model by incorporating over 22,000 historical weather data points from the South Jeolla region.
Weather information plays a crucial role as factors like sunlight, temperature, and humidity directly impact crop yields.
The production forecasting model is user-friendly, allowing non-experts to input basic information such as crop type and sowing date to obtain yield estimates.
The platform also enables remote management of various unmanned agricultural machinery, including tractors, drones, and transplanting machines.
Operators can monitor fuel levels, detect malfunctions, and manage work schedules for these autonomous machines.
LG CNS has leveraged its smart city platform, Cityhub, as the foundation for the new platform.
The IoT platform INFioT facilitates data collection, while the AI and big data platform DAP MLDL powers data analysis and prediction capabilities.
The newly unveiled smart farm in Naju will be operated as a pilot by the South Jeolla Provincial Agricultural Research and Extension Services and the South Jeolla Seed Management Center.
