SEOUL, June 2 (Korea Bizwire) — As part of its sustainable management efforts, LG Electronics Inc. has decided to implement ‘plastic-free’ management in collaboration with the government and civil society.
On Tuesday, the South Korean tech giant signed a cooperation agreement with the Ministry of Environment and the Korea Zero Waste Movement Network, a nongovernmental organization.
Under terms of the agreement, LG will replace about 30 percent of the plastic materials it uses for TVs and sound bar components with renewable materials that are produced through the recycling of waste headlights or home electronics.
In addition, LG plans to release a new sound bar product with an exterior made of recycled PET bottles.
The company also plans to expand the output of OLED TVs that have about 70 percent fewer plastic components compared to LCD TVs.
Under the plastic free initiative, LG aims to recycle about 1,050 tons of waste plastics and reduce about 10,000 tons of plastics this year.
