SEOUL, April 15 (Korea Bizwire) — This year, the government will support the creation of commercial products using a prototype model that has won a competition for recycling marine waste.
Marine waste is difficult to recycle due to its salinity and other foreign substances from the sea. Since it is more costly to collect than land waste, most of it is incinerated.
In response, the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries organized a special committee last month, inviting outside experts to review various ideas for recycling marine waste that have won competitions in the past.
The ministry selected the ‘Whale Door Stopper’, which won a competition in 2019.
The ‘Whale Door Stopper’ is made with plastic waste collected from the sea. It comes in various shapes and sizes, designed after various marine animals, and has received high scores in creativity and practicality.
