Navy Maintenance Depot to Offer Free Check-ups for Fishing Vessels

DONGHAE, May 11 (Korea Bizwire)The Navy 1st Fleet Command’s maintenance depot began offering free check-ups for fishing vessels on Tuesday in Donghae, a coastal city located 279 kilometers east of Seoul.

This volunteer check-up program for fishing vessels will run for two days, and has been around since 2014 to prevent accidents caused by poor maintenance and ensure the stability of the local fishing industry.

Seven volunteers comprised of civilian workers from the maintenance will be visiting Donghae’s Mukho, Eodal, Daejin, Hyangno and Jeoncheon ports to offer check-ups for local fishing vessels.

The volunteer corps will check fuel, coolant, batteries and wires inside the fishing vessels to ensure safe fishing activity.

Based on requests from fishing towns and the National Federation of Fisheries Cooperatives, the maintenance depot will increase the number of free check-ups from one to three times per year.
