SEOUL, Jan. 9 (Korea Bizwire) — The therapeutic qualities of art may be scientifically verifiable thanks to a professor at Sahmyook University in Seoul, who has devised a way to use next generation technology to measure the efficacy of art as treatment.
Together with software developer Open Bus, professor Kim Sung-woon has applied to the Korean Intellectual Property Office for a patent for a new testing system.
The research team recorded the changes in brain waves of individuals looking at various works of art and identified the actions that indicated treatment was taking place.
Professor Kim stated that he plans to expand the scope of the system to medical diagnosis, treatment for Alzheimer’s, and more.
Established in 1906 as Euimyung College, Samhyook University was founded by members of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. It is one of 116 postsecondary institutions worldwide affiliated with the religious institution.
