SEOUL, April 7 (Korea Bizwire)Video game giant NCSOFT Corp. announced that it has filed a civil lawsuit against Kakao Games Corp. and its subsidiary XLGAMES Inc. at the Seoul Central District Court.

NCSOFT claimed that Kakao Games’ “ArcheAge WAR,” which was released last month, infringes upon the copyrights of the contents and the system of its “Lineage 2M,” a mobile massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) released in 2019.

The company submitted its supporting data on Thursday, claiming that “ArcheAge WAR” has copied “Lineage 2M”s user interface, character growth system, and convenience features designed to help with the gameplay.

These systems impact the gameplay experience and the business model both directly and indirectly, NCSOFT said.

XLGAMES is led by Song Jae-kyung, a former developer of NCSOFT’s “Lineage.”

A number of gamers and YouTubers have pointed out in recent months that “ArcheAge WAR”’s user interface and the overall game system were similar to other MMORPGs, especially to “Lineage 2M.”
