SEOUL, Oct. 24 (Korea Bizwire) – The Korea Transportation Safety Authority announced on October 24 that it will expand its policy enabling parents to track their pre-school aged children’s school bus whereabouts to include children in daycare.
The Gimcheon city, North Gyeongsang Province-based policy will enable parents to use a smartphone app to access a school bus’s location and speed, as well as when their children get on or off.
When a child gets on the bus, the parents receive a text message written “Boarded” with a link included. The link leads to a page on which information about the bus driver, the location of the bus, and traveling speed are uploaded in real time. When the child arrives at his or her destination and gets off, the parents receive another text message written “Disembarked”.
The technology rests on a small tracking device the size of a coin which is worn on the child. When the child boards the bus, the vehicle’s scanning system recognizes the device and begins sending the relevant data to the parents.
