SEOUL, Korea, Mar 29 (Korea Bizwire) – By developing a smartphone application, the Korean government has made it easier and more convenient for drivers to report road hazards such as potholes and rock falls.
The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport will begin a service called “Efficient Solution for Road Inconveniences” processing civil complaints within 24 hours upon people’s reporting on their inconveniences anytime anywhere.
For the service, the ministry introduced the smartphone app for convenient reporting on any road nationwide. When a driver reports a complaint through the app, a special task force will process the complaint within 24 hours. After that, the app will notify the driver on the result.
Currently, some 300 road maintenance offices under the ministry, local government and the Korea Expressway Corporation are running separate apps or call centers and the reporting procedures are way too complicated for drivers and the petitioners are not notified on the results.
To improve such inconveniences, the ministry has created the service with close cooperation with the road maintenance offices by combining the GPS and the app. Drivers can report the inconvenience by taking photos or videos through the app and also can call a nearby maintenance office through the GPS detection.
Also, the ministry launched the special task forces in 52 Korea Express branch offices and 12 road maintenance offices which will take charge of processing the complaints within 24 hours upon receiving the call.
An official at the ministry said, “We hope our service could minimize inconvenience while motorists are driving on the roads and will provide safe and convenient roads through the cooperation with related services.”
