SEOUL, Jul. 26 (Korea Bizwire) — Sales of Robot Taekwon V action figures surpassed expectations only hours after a major retail chain in the country began taking pre-orders for the collectibles of South Korea’s beloved character.
According to Lotte Mart, which runs Toys“R”Us where the action figures of the popular robot character are being sold, over 600 pre-orders were made within a day, the greatest sales performance the retail giant has experienced.
According to officials at Lotte Mart, members of the general public who wanted to take a trip down memory lane with the action figures of a character that was popular during their childhood were a major contributing factor to the soaring sales.
In South Korea, sales of action figures typically rely heavily on collectors.
Beginning with Robot Taekwon V, Lotte Mart is set to embark on a project to release a series of action figures of characters popular in South Korea during the 1970s and 80s, in an effort to reach a wider audience.
Pre-order sales of Robot Taekwon V action figures at Toys“R”Us are set to continue until August 7.
After its release in 1976, the TV series was an immediate hit, spawning a string of sequels in following years.
