SEOUL, Feb. 22 (Korea Bizwire) — The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries said Monday that it will start an official development assistance (ODA) project that will establish a shellfish farm in Northern Vietnam and transfer relevant technology.
The Korea Forest Service plans to utilize a 330-hectare mangrove forest that is being established in Vietnam as part of an ODA project to build a shellfish farm and modernize crop breeding.
Additionally, South Korea will send fisheries experts to Vietnam to assist with technology transfer and staff training.
The northern coast of Vietnam used to be home to thriving shellfish farming in the mid-1990s. Due to reckless fishing and pollution, however, the region has been seeing a plunging production rate.
In response, the Vietnamese government formally requested that South Korea transfer breeding technology in 2018.
