S. Koreans are More Active in Using Emojis: Survey

SEOUL, July 19 (Korea Bizwire)South Koreans are more active in using emojis than smartphone users in other countries, a survey showed.

Emojis are small pictures used on smartphones, tablets and other electronic devices to convey emotion.

Software giant Adobe Inc. recently unveiled a report written on the basis of a survey conducted of 7,000 people in seven countries including South Korea, the U.S. and Britain.

According to the report, 76 percent of the South Korean respondents said they substituted words with emojis, higher than the global average of 68 percent.

South Koreans also showed a higher level of understanding (88 percent) about newly-created emojis than the global average (75 percent).

At 93 percent, the vast majority of the South Korean respondents said that it was easier to feel sympathy for conversation partners if they used emojis, higher than the global average of 88 percent.

Emojis generate a positive impact not only on personal relationship but also on workplace communication and marketing.

Another 79 percent of the South Korean respondents said that they feel more affinity with coworkers who use emojis, while 75 percent said that emojis help when sharing ideas within teams.

Roughly two thirds of the South Korean respondents noted that they have favorable feelings towards the brands that use emojis that comply with their personal tendencies.
