SEOUL, Sept. 8 (Korea Bizwire) — Weekly sales of ready-to-eat meals at convenience stores jumped as bars are now required to close down at 9 p.m. in accordance with tighter quarantine measures.
Convenience store chain CU reported that in the period between 10 p.m. and 2 a.m. from Aug. 30 to Sept. 5, sales of ready-to-eat foods such as cooked chicken breasts increased by 37.2 percent compared to the previous month.
Overall ready-to-eat meal sales throughout the greater Seoul area surged by 38.2 percent while sales in other regions jumped by 31.6 percent.
Other midnight snacks such as instant noodles and frozen food products saw sales jump 36.9 percent and 29.6 percent, respectively.
Among snacks, popcorn sales jumped the highest at 24.9 percent, possibly due to the increasing number of indoor moviegoers watching Netflix instead of going to a movie theater.
Popular side dishes for drinking such as frozen food (29 percent), processed meat (21.7 percent) and dried snacks (19.7 percent) also saw their sales increase.
