SEOUL, Aug. 29 (Korea Bizwire) – Samsung Electronics announced on August 28 that it will showcase an artificial intelligence-enhanced version of its Samsung Food Service at IFA 2024, Europe’s largest consumer electronics and IT exhibition, scheduled for September 6-10 in Berlin, Germany.

Samsung Food, initially introduced at IFA 2023, is a mobile app service that functions as a specialized food platform compatible with a wide range of Samsung products, including home appliances, mobile devices, and televisions.

The service offers comprehensive food-related features, from ingredient management and recipe provision to cooking in conjunction with kitchen appliances.

Celebrating its first anniversary, Samsung Food now serves users in 104 countries in eight languages. The company reports that its global user base has surpassed 6 million as of July 2024.

At this year’s exhibition, Samsung plans to introduce Samsung Food Plus, a premium service offering personalized meal planning and health management programs. The new offering heavily incorporates AI technology to improve user convenience.

One of the notable additions is a feature that allows users to register ingredients in the app simply by taking a photo with their mobile device.

Utilizing Vision AI technology, the app can quickly identify multiple ingredients in a single image, eliminating the need for individual photographs.

The service also aims to reduce food waste by prioritizing ingredients nearing their expiration dates when recommending recipes and meal plans.

Samsung Food Plus provides personalized nutrition guidance based on users’ physical characteristics, age, and exercise information.

It offers features such as setting intake goals, weekly meal planning, customized recipes, nutrition intake progress tracking, and analysis of trends in the consumption of five major nutrients.

The company has also integrated OpenAI technology to introduce an AI Customization feature. This function personalizes recipes according to users’ health goals, eating habits, preferences, and cooking skill levels.

Additional features include the ability to transmit recipes to ovens or induction cooktops, automatically setting appropriate cooking values for specific dishes. Users can also set timers using voice commands through Samsung’s Bixby assistant.

“As we mark the first anniversary of Samsung Food, we’ve added a variety of features that can make consumers’ food experiences smarter, based on Samsung’s unique AI technology,” said Lee Moo-hyung, Vice President of Samsung Electronics’ Digital Appliances Business.

“We will continue to advance our products and services through the close connection between home appliances and software.”
