SEOUL, Aug. 3 (Korea Bizwire) – Samsung Electronics Co., the world’s top smartphone maker, has unveiled the official application of the Rio de Janeiro Summer Olympics with the start of the quadrennial premier sports event just days away, industry sources said Wednesday.

Samsung, also the Worldwide Olympic Partner in the Wireless Communications Equipment category at the upcoming games, launched the “Rio 2016 App” in Rio de Janeiro on Tuesday, which was developed in collaboration with the Rio 2016 Organizing Committee.

The app, which comes in English, Korean and five other languages, provides athletes, fans and consumers with updates on all of the latest Olympic news.

It covers the official Olympic Games schedule, venue and event information, results, medal counts, team and country information, world records and more real-time updates.

The app is available for free download through the Samsung App Store, Google Play for Android, App Store for iOS and the Windows App Store during the Rio Games, scheduled to open on Friday for a 17-day run, and the Sept. 7-18 Rio Paralympics.

Since the 2004 Athens Olympics, Samsung has developed apps for six Summer and Winter Olympics that provide Olympic information and news. As part of the official Olympic campaign, Samsung has also made a documentary on Olympians.

Last month, Samsung started sales of the Galaxy S7 Edge Olympic Games Limited Edition, which features an Olympic Games design and the five official colors of the Olympic Rings.

Samsung has decided to deliver around 12,500 limited edition phones and Gear IconX Bluetooth earbuds to all athletes participating in the games slated to start Friday for a 17-day run.
