SEOUL, March 4 (Korea Bizwire) — The Seoul Metropolitan Government has launched the operation of an automatic alert system to check the entry and departure of tax delinquent vehicles at 99 public parking lots in downtown areas from Friday.
If vehicles subject to number-plate confiscation for tax delinquency enter the parking lot gates, the system identifies their number plate using a camera and sends an alert to the city’s enforcement officers and district offices in the jurisdiction concerned.
The system sends information on the location of the parking lot, plate number and entry time to the enforcement officers using short messaging service (SMS) on a real time basis, thereby enabling the confiscation of number plates in a fast and accurate manner.
Previously, enforcement officers needed to walk around to detect tax delinquent vehicles.
Those wanting to check if taxes are owed for their vehicle before using a public parking lot can visit the city government’s website for ‘vehicle number plate confiscation-related civil service.’
By using the vehicle entry and departure alert system for public parking lots, the city government is also reviewing the idea of restricting the operation of non-insured vehicles and vehicle owners that have avoided regular maintenance checks.
