SEOUL, Oct. 12 (Korea Bizwire) – In the first eight months of this year, Seoul’s tap water production, branded as ‘Arisu,’ averaged 3.05 million tons per day. Each Seoul citizen received an average daily water supply of 301 liters.
To effectively meet the growing demand for tap water, the Seoul Metropolitan Government announced plans to increase the daily capacity of advanced water treatment facilities from the current 3.8 million tons to 4.15 million tons by 2043.
On Wednesday, the city government released data on tap water production and outlined the expansion plan for water purification facilities.
The peak day for tap water production in the city this year was July 21, coinciding with the onset of a heatwave, when daily tap water production reached an estimated 3.31 million tons. On that day, the highest temperature recorded was 34.3 degrees Celsius.
This production level translated to approximately 352 liters per capita for Seoul citizens, equivalent to the volume of 176 two-liter bottles.
As of August 31, the city’s average daily tap water production was 3.05 million tons, an amount comparable to the water required to fill approximately 813 swimming pools from the Hangzhou Asian Games.
Seoul’s daily capacity for advanced water treatment stands at an estimated 3.8 million tons. The city manages six water purification facilities to distribute Arisu to Seoul residents.
Despite the declining population of the city, the number of water faucets in use is on the rise. The Seoul Waterworks Authority supplies tap water to a total of 2,262,942 water supply facilities, providing tap water to 4,469,158 households.
On average, each Seoul citizen receives a daily tap water supply of 301 liters and consumes 288 liters.
