SEOUL, Dec. 1 (Korea Bizwire) — SK Telecom Co., South Korea’s largest wireless carrier, said Wednesday it will introduce a new safety management solution in which smartphones are used to remotely monitor the risk factors of manhole accidents.
The solution is a combination of TANGO, SK Telecom’s artificial intelligence (AI)-based system; cybersecurity service provider SK shieldus Co.’s SUMiTS, a platform that collects field information through Internet of Things (IoT) sensors and immediately responds to risk situations; and communication solutions provider Nable Communications Inc.’s sensor technology.
TANGO analyzes the data on the status of the manhole through a dedicated sensor. If a situation is detected, field workers are notified through a smartphone app.
The solution can also be used to detect the risk of underground flooding during heavy showers, as well as leaks of hazardous gas.
SK Telecom expanded the scope of implementing the solution to some 100 locations that include sites suspected of hazardous gas, frequently worked manholes with considerable depth, and manholes near downtown or major communication facilities, with work expected to be completed by the end of this year.
