SEOUL, Jan. 19 (Korea Bizwire) – The “Winter City” Taebaek, made internationally famous for being one of the filming locations for South Korean TV megahit “Descendants of the Sun”, kicked off its two-week long Taebaek Mountain Snow Festival on January 19.
Open until February 11, a variety of attractions and treats await visitors making their way to the city in Gangwon Province.
Dozens of snow sculptures of King Kong, Psy and other recognizable figures and landmarks present picture-perfect photo opportunities. Slides cut through the ice, igloos and sledding opportunities are family friendly activities available, and those worn out from a day of picture taking and crawling in and out of ice structure can settle down near a wood-fired oven and chomp down on grilled beef, pork, potatoes and yams, and other regional delicacies.
In addition, singing contests and musical performances will be held throughout the duration of the festival.
Gangwon Province includes Pyeongchang, which will host the upcoming Winter Olympics. The distance from Taebaek to Pyeongchang is approximately one hour and forty minutes by car.
