DONGHAE, Jan. 7 (Korea Bizwire)The South Korean Navy’s 1st Fleet is stepping up to help service members overcome the so-called ‘corona blues’ as the COVID-19 pandemic drags on.

The fleet has allowed troops to engage in physical training after 4 p.m. every day to look after their health while adhering to quarantine regulations.

For the many seamen who have been banned from taking a leave of absence following the coronavirus outbreak, the fleet has allowed the use of personal cell phones to call their family and friends at a designated area.

“While I can’t go see them in person, I was able to speak to them on the phone. Now I feel much better. I hope that they do, too,” PO2 Yoon Jong-hyeok said.

The fleet is purchasing more books and movies to rent out to service members after working hours for higher morale, communicating directly with them via email, text, letters, and recommendation boxes to gather insights and ideas.
