BRAZIL, Jun. 23 (Korea Bizwire) — South Korean manufacturer Hanbyul ENC has landed a business deal in Brazil that will see the company build platform screen doors for the Santos subway.
According to the Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI), the small South Korean company was able to win the contract thanks to the help of the ETRI, which made it possible for the company to meet the safety and technology requirements of the tender.
As technological requirements for software certification are often hard to meet, it’s difficult for SMEs like Hanbyul ENC to spend the time and capital required to obtain the necessary technology to land platform screen door deals in foreign countries.
Seeing a need, the ETRI stepped in to help by providing the South Korean company with its internationally-approved software distribution platform for screen door control systems.
Cooperation with other entities, including the Korea Railroad Research Institute (KRRI) and other smaller businesses, played a major role in helping Hanbyul ENC land the screen door platform deal in Brazil.
For instance, the KRRI provided significant support to another manufacturing company, CDA, which produces screen door control systems, as part of a collective effort to help Hanbyul ENC meet the Brazilian authorities’ safety and technology requirements.
As both a government-backed research institute and small businesses worked together throughout the process to improve the quality of key technology and pre-existing control systems, the ETRI believes Hanbyul ENC’s success could serve as a role model to other South Korean business hopefuls.
Kim Tae-ho, chief researcher at the ETRI, said, “South Korea’s highly reliable distribution software platform technology outperforms its global rivals. To prove safety, we meet all international safety standards.”
In addition to platform screen doors, the ETRI is hopeful its distribution software platform will be adopted in the military, automotive, shipbuilding and robotics industries.
