SEOUL, Sept. 13 (Korea Bizwire) — A recent survey shows that more than half of South Korean citizens have a favorable opinion of large corporations, and their top expectation from these companies is job creation.

According to a survey commissioned by the Federation of Korean Industries (FKI) and conducted by the polling firm Monos Research, among 1,005 adults nationwide aged 18 and older, 58.3 percent expressed a positive view of large corporations, which is about seven times higher than the 8.6 percent who had a negative opinion.

Compared to ten years ago, 41 percent of respondents felt that their view of large corporations had improved, while 49.4 percent saw no change, and 9.6 percent thought it had worsened.

The FKI attributed the increased favorability towards large corporations to the belief that they significantly contribute to the overall South Korean economy.

The survey found that the most significant areas where large corporations were perceived to contribute were exports (90.7 percent), economic growth (88 percent), investment (74.7 percent), job creation (71 percent), innovation (71 percent), and increasing national income (62.9 percent).

On the other hand, only 49.7 percent believed that large corporations contributed to social responsibility, and 36.1 percent thought they helped promote ethical and lawful business practices. These percentages were relatively lower compared to their economic contributions like exports, investment, and employment.

Respondents believed that the most important role for large corporations in the future should be job creation (24.2 percent), followed by expanding exports and investment (16 percent), enhancing social responsibility (16 percent), improving worker wages and benefits (15.7 percent), and strengthening legal and ethical management (15.1 percent).

An FKI representative commented that as job scarcity continues in South Korean society and job seekers have higher expectations, the demand for jobs in large corporations is likely to increase.
