DAEJEON, Dec.30 (Korea Bizwire) – The hero that caught the criminal of the shooting that occurred in Daejeon at on the day of Christmas, was the ‘Wanted Automobile Search System’(WASS) using a CCTV.
On December 28, 7:11 p.m., an alert went off at the situation room of the Gyeonggi Police, informing that a wanted car had just drove by.
The vehicle had the same license plate number as the car of Shin (58), who was the suspect of the shooting that occurred in Daejeon on December 25th.
The police pursued the car in question for 20 minutes, until in which the car fled towards the Gwangju, Gyeonggi province.
Shin could not get away, and was confronted by police at a parking lot nearby the old office in Gonjiam. However, he committed suicide by pulling the trigger of the gun he held towards his head and shooting.
As Shin cast himself into death, the chances of the incident being unsolved became greater, because the main suspect would be the only one to know the motive for the crime and also how he was able to attain a gun.
However, the WASS system used by the police was noticed for its performance in locating the wanted vehicle.
The system uses CCTVs all over the nation, and has been up and running from December 7.
When the license number of a wanted car is caught on CCTV, an alert goes off automatically in the situation room at the police station which holds jurisdiction.
The system is used in cases such as murder, kidnapping, theft, and robbery with hostages.
Catching the criminal of the Daejeon Christmas shooting was the first case that used the WASS system.
