SEOUL, Aug. 3 (Korea Bizwire) — A recent survey has revealed that the vast majority of South Korean adults are now drinking at home following the onset of the coronavirus pandemic.
Lotte Members Co., a membership service unit of retail conglomerate Lotte Group, conducted a survey of 2,000 men and women, 83.6 percent of whom said they now drink primarily at home following the pandemic outbreak.
Among them, 61.1 percent drank at home for ‘light enjoyment,’ followed by 50.1 percent who drank at home to ‘relieve stress and as a self-reward.’
Prior to the pandemic, 44.9 percent drank only two or three times per week. Now, a whopping 70.4 percent said they only drink once or less per week.
At 47.3 percent, close to half said they drink less in the pandemic era, as opposed to those who drink more (12.7 percent).
