SEOUL, April 28 (Korea Bizwire) — SNT Motiv Co., a local defense firm, said Wednesday it had developed a next-generation rifle that can penetrate high-performance bullet-proof vests.
SNT Motiv said it had completed the development of a next-generation high-power rifle in collaboration with ammunition manufacture Poongsan Corp. to cope with the improvement in the performance of safety applications such as bulletproof vests.
The two companies signed a memorandum of understanding to develop the next-generation 6.8 mm rifle and ammunition in November 2019 and expanded the scope of cooperation from February 2020.
The next-generation 6.8 mm rifle uses heavier bullets than the existing 5.56 mm models, thereby featuring an enhanced bullet trajectory and longer effective range. It has strong enough power to penetrate bulletproof vests.
SNT Motiv developed the technology after testing key components such as barrels and breechblocks with 6.8 mm bullets for civilian use.
The company plans to modularize its firearms to better cope with the latest global firearm trends. Modularized firearms allow users to replace the barrel, barrel cover and butt plate depending on their needs.
